A curated showcase of author animation from across the Arab world: Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco, and Syria. Exploring censorship, memory, exile, love and resistance. From intimate personal stories to sweeping allegorical journeys, this program highlights the richness and depth of the contemporary Arab animation scene. The programme is brought to Maribor through Beirut Animation Nights International Tour, a curated selection of Lebanese and international animated short films, drawn from past and current festival editions, to audiences around the world. The tour continues the festival's mission of promoting Lebanese and Arab animation internationally, while standing in solidarity with communities in Lebanon affected by ongoing Israeli aggression and displacement. Proceeds and donations from screenings go directly toward relief efforts supporting those most in need. In the face of hardship, the program treats culture as a source of resilience and dignity, keeping Lebanese creative voices visible and heard internationally.
Due to the ongoing Israeli military aggression on Lebanon, which has killed more than 1,450 people – including 126 children – and displaced over 1.2 million residents, nearly 22% of Lebanon's entire population, entire families have been forced to flee with nowhere to go. Schools have been converted into shelters, and over 40% of Lebanon's students have been displaced. In the face of this, culture remains one of the most powerful tools of resilience and dignity.
The Beirut Animation Nights International Tour Program presents a traveling selection of animated short films from Lebanon and around the world, drawn from current and past editions of the festival. This is our way of supporting displaced families from the south of Lebanon – keeping Lebanese creativity alive on the world stage while channeling real help to those who need it most.

Nicolas Fattouh is a Lebanese visual artist and animation film director. In 2018 his debut film “How My Grandmother Became a Chair” received The Film Prize of the Robert Bosch Stiftung at the Berlinale. After its world premiere in the 60th Krakow Film Festival, this film was selected in more than 125 film festivals around the world. Today Nicolas is working in parallel on his films, exhibitions and performances in Lebanon and abroad. In 2023, Nicolas created Beirut Animation Nights, the only animation festival currently in Lebanon, to showcase animated short films from all over the world.
