Abou Kees was an old Arab folktale of an angry figure who came after mischievous children and took them away in his bag. What if the tale was just an imaginative take on a real person that people feared to approach? Made as a part of Beirut Animation Nights x FACILA Animation Challenge 2025.

Abou Kees je stara arabska ljudska pripovedka o jeznem stvoru, ki je prežal na nagajive otroke in jih odnašal v svoji vreči. Kaj pa, če je ta zgodba zgolj domišljijska interpretacija resnične osebe, ki so se ji ljudje bali približati? Film je nastal v sklopu animacijskega izziva Beirut Animation Nights x FACILA Animation Challenge 2025.

Melinda Mouzannar

is a Lebanese multidisciplinary visual artist based in Berlin. With a BA in Animation from L'Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts, she entered the work field specialized in frame by frame animation, motion design, and illustration, while dabbling in 3D art. Being from Lebanon, a place saturated with unfortunate circumstances topped off with detrimental decades of political corruption, has definitely made its way into some of her artworks. While dreamscapes are a recurring theme in Melinda’s work, these circumstances have shifted some of the artworks towards a more political direction. When she is not voicing issues related to injustice, corruption and their aftermath on all fronts, she delves into her world of colours, surrealism and dreams.
