Workshot: PLASTICINE – Children's stop motion animation workshop with Melita Sandrin and Domen Sajovic

In this workshop, we will create a short animated film using stop-motion techniques. We will explore the material of plasticine and engage with it in engaging and creative ways. We will play with three-dimensional shapes, transforming them into a moving two-dimensional world by sculpting, rolling, cutting, and mixing the material. Since this year’s festival edition is dedicated to the theme of "dead media", the workshop will utilise animation techniques that might be forgotten, outdated, or unusual. The goal of the workshop is to discover plasticine as a medium and recognise its diverse potential for animation and creativity, while participants will also learn about the entire process of making an animated film. The workshop will be led by Melita Sandrin and Domen Sajovic, both master's students in animation at the University of Nova Gorica School of Arts.
Melita Sandrin is a second-year master's student at the University of Nova Gorica School of Arts. Even before her university studies, she learned about animation and film at the School of Animated Film in Čakovec (ŠAF). She is currently exploring various animation techniques and media, focusing primarily on analog methods. Alongside animation, she also enjoys working in the fields of video, photography, and design.
Domen Sajovic is a master's student in animation at the University of Nova Gorica School of Arts, where he previously completed his undergraduate studies in Digital Arts and Practices. Prior to enrolling at the academy, he avidly pursued animation and filmmaking as a hobby in his free time. He primarily works with stop-motion puppet animation but also loves experimenting with other animation techniques. During his studies, he completed his first puppet animated short, Last Laugh (2022), and is currently working on his master's graduation film, titled Salamander.
