Workshot: PLASTICINE – Children's stop motion animation workshop with Jan Svenšek

16. - 19. 9. 2026, Maribor Puppet Theatre

In this workshop, we will create a short animated film using stop-motion techniques. We will explore the material of plasticine and engage with it in engaging and creative ways. We will play with three-dimensional shapes, transforming them into a moving two-dimensional world by sculpting, rolling, cutting, and mixing the material. Since this year’s festival edition is dedicated to the theme of "dead media", the workshop will utilise animation techniques that might be forgotten, outdated, or unusual. The goal of the workshop is to discover plasticine as a medium and recognise its diverse potential for animation and creativity, while participants will also learn about the entire process of making an animated film. The workshop will be led by Jan Svenšek.

As a high school student, Jan Svenšek started creating music videos for the Maribor music scene. He later enrolled at the University of Nova Gorica School of Arts, where he discovered his passion for animation. He is currently working on his short animated graduation film.
