15th StopTrik IFF Offici al Selection Vol. 2

International competition programme: Stop motion animation for children

Presenting programmes for children comes with a great responsibility. It is essential to strike a balance between artistic quality, the significance of the message, and an appeal strong enough to fascinate and critically engage the youngest generation – one immersed in screens and audiovisual communication from birth. At StopTrik IFF, the children's film competition is divided into three categories based on the age of the viewers: 6-8 years, 9-11 years, and 12-14 years. The audiences – large groups of primary school pupils from Maribor – gather at the Maribor Puppet Theatre (Lutkovno gledališče Maribor). It is the young viewers themselves who have the power to choose the prize winners in each category.

Brina Fekonja and Jelena Dragutinović, the selectors of “Stop Motion Animation for Children” stated: “The selection process was not easy. We have watched 90 short (and few a bit longer) animated films. We have selected the best (in our opinion) and have formed 3 programmes for different age groups. The selected films stand out for their quality of production, compelling stories, important themes, unique humor, interesting techniques, sophisticated visuals and magical soundscapes. Congratulations to all the authors!”
