StopTrik International Film Festival is dedicated to stop motion techniques of hand-made, spatial animation as puppet film, claymation, object or photography manipulation, animation of loose materials (such as salt, sand etc), pixilation, traditional cut-out and many more. The list of sub-genres could be complemented with such exceptional techniques as animation of lights, fire, yarns, threads. Artists' imagination is limitless and so we can be neither orthodox nor strict while defining the term "stop motion". The ultimate goal of this unique annual gathering is to admire and celebrate artistry of hand-made, spatial animation together with all the other drifters of the surreal, absurd or merry highways who are ready to pursue frame by frame illusion.

9. StopTrik International Film Festival

StopTrik IFF is a unique international celebration of worldwide stop motion animation. In a period of one month Slovenian city Maribor and Lodz in Poland become alternative capitals of animation thanks to the festival of highest quality film programme, spectacular additional events and inventive professional workshops of stop motion technique and festival journalism. StopTrik vibe fully engages the Audiences and tears down the “red carpet” barriers – the attendants, the guests and the organizers spend time together watching films, discussing tradition and new trends of animation, creating and partying at the end of the day. StopTrik IFF builds truly new relationship between the visitors and the artists through positioning viewers in the role of the main jurors who decide about the verdicts of the international competitions. In between following editions of the festival, StopTrik IFF tours around the world with special screenings, workshops, lectures, seminars and other activities that stimulate understanding and development of artistic animation.

StopTrik IFF was born in Maribor and throughout the years it became recognized and appreciated on the international scene of artistic animation. The mission of the Festival is to point attention of various Audiences to the splendor of stop motion traditions and practical aspects of animation filmmaking as well as to the value of critical, aware and active conduct of cultural activism through festival discussions, interventions and interactions, film education and academic reflection. International dimension of the festival becomes clearly visible through artistic programme (during former editions StopTrik IFF competitions and retrospectives the Festival presented outstanding stop motion achievements from all continents), strong regional, European and intercontinental networking with various cultural institutions, partner and friendly animation festivals, as well as fruitful and creative cooperation with festival co-organizers in Poland.

Stop motion is one of oldest technique of animation that embraces whole spectrum of different artistic approaches towards this specific film medium. Stop motion artists animate puppets, clay figures, random three dimensional and loose objects, cut-out papers or even human bodies. Extraordinary realities are brought to life by the magic of frame-by-frame photography that releases illusory movements and powerful transformations. It is an exceptional kind of cinema – emotional, intimate, and aesthetically sophisticated yet familiar and engaging. Fascinating art of stop motion uses contemporary technological innovations however digital tools do not turn animation into sterile 3D pictures. Stop motion is breathtaking not breathless.
