StopTrik International Film Festival is dedicated to stop motion techniques of hand-made, spatial animation as puppet film, claymation, object or photography manipulation, animation of loose materials (such as salt, sand etc), pixilation, traditional cut-out and many more. The list of sub-genres could be complemented with such exceptional techniques as animation of lights, fire, yarns, threads. Artists' imagination is limitless and so we can be neither orthodox nor strict while defining the term "stop motion". The ultimate goal of this unique annual gathering is to admire and celebrate artistry of hand-made, spatial animation together with all the other drifters of the surreal, absurd or merry highways who are ready to pursue frame by frame illusion.

Hipnotizirajoče nihalo v gibanje sproži poseben mehanizem. Fragmentarno pojavljajoča se podoba, prostor in raznovrstni predmeti tvorijo ritmični sistem medsebojne odvisnosti. Kaj je vzrok in kaj posledica? Zmagovalec publike na festivalu O!PLA 2019.

Natalia Spychała

Graduate of the Łódź Film School, Poland, director and animator. In addition to making short animated films, she explores stop motion techniques by co-creating projects that combine animation with literature, theatre, music and new technologies. She runs a studio in Łódź where she organizes animation workshops as well as art events for children, teenagers and adults.

Diplomantka poljske Filmske šole Lodž, režiserka in animatorka. Poleg ustvarjanja kratkih animiranih filmov se ukvarja tudi z raziskovanje tehnik stop animacije, saj soustvarja projekte, ki združujejo animacijo in literaturo, gledališče, glasbo in nove tehnologije. Vodi filmski studio v Lodžu, kjer organizira delavnice animacije, pa tudi umetniške dogodke za otroke, najstnike in odrasle.

Carla Pereira studied Fine Arts at the University of San Carlos in Valencia, alongside illustration and stop motion. She has notably worked on Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs, amongst other stop motion productions.

Juanfran Jacinto mainly studied sculpture. He has also worked in the art department on spanish live action film productions like movies, short films and commercials. After directing and animating several commissioned films through their Engranaje collective, Metamorphosis is their first short film.

Carla Pereira je poleg ilustracije in stop animacije študirala likovno umetnost na Univerzi San Carlos v Valenciji. Delala je pri številnih produkcijah stop animacije, med drugim tudi filmu Isle of Dogs (r. Wes Anderson).

JuanFran Jacinto je študiral kiparstvo. Delal je pri številnih produkcijah španskih igranih filmov, kratkih filmov in oglasov. Po režiranju in animaciji več filmov po naročilu (v okviru njunega kolektiva Engranaje) je film Metamorfoza njun prvi kratki film.

Sofy’s job is putting caps on bottles. The work is monotonous and seemingly endless. The pace with which the bottles come through is fast and Sofy must hurry to keep up. But this day she is interrupted when one bottle arrives with a cap already attached.

Edino delo, ki ga ima Sofy, je dajanje pokrovčkov na steklenice. Delo je monotono in na videz brez konca. Steklenice prihajajo z veliko hitrostjo in Sofy mora hiteti, da jim lahko sledi. Nekega dne pa jo zmoti steklenica, ki po tekočem traku pride z že pritrjenim pokrovčkom.

Pella Olsson is a filmmaker/animator based in Stockholm. She has studied the basics of filmmaking at Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts and philosophy at Uppsala University. In 2018 she graduated from Animationsakademien in Stockholm. The graduation film Bottleneck (Flaskhals) had it’s premiere at Gothenburg film festival in January 2019. Pella is currently directing the animated series Sagasagor, of which the first season can be streamed on Nordic Viaplay and the second is in production.

Pella Olsson je filmska ustvarjalka / animatorka s sedežem v Stockholmu. Osnove filmskega ustvarjanja je študirala na Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts and Philosophy na Univerzi v Uppsali. Leta 2018 je diplomirala na Animationsakademien v Stockholmu. Njen diplomski Bottleneck (Flaskhals) je premiero doživel januarja 2019 na filmskem festivalu v Göteborgu. Pella trenutno režira animirano serijo Sagasagor, katere prvo sezono si je moč ogledati na  Nordic Viaplay, druga pa je v produkciji.

Described as “inventive” and “gorgeous,” animated music videos created by Tulipomania have won awards and have been featured in film festivals worldwide. Tulipomania creates meticulous, mesmerizing videos that augment the group’s musical artistry, involving painstaking frame-by-frame stop-motion animation techniques. Their music videos created have been featured in film festivals throughout the world including: Animation Block Party (Brooklyn, USA), the London Short Film Festival (England), Leeds International Film Festival (England), Aesthetica Short Film Festival (York, England), Encounters (Bristol, England), Zubroffka (Poland), and StopTrik (Slovenia, Poland). As a musical group, Tulipomania, whose name was inspired by the 1637 Dutch tulip market collapse has been categorized as ‘cult synth punks’, ‘glam-leaning’, ‘postpunk’, ‘art rock’, and ‘muscular chamber pop’. Band members Cheryl Gelover and Tom Murray first met in art school, and found themselves collaborating on projects for their Experimental Film and Animation classes. In November, 2018 the duo contributed over an hour of collage and mixed media animation in support of Pixies 30th anniversary performances of the band’s first releases Come on Pilgrim/Surfer Rosa, working in collaboration with the acclaimed graphic artist Vaughan

Oliver; the animations were projected over seven screens, synced to the live performances in London, Mexico City and Brooklyn. Tulipomania have released four albums and numerous animated music videos and singles. They are currently at work on a fifth album and supporting animated music videos.

Tulipomania ustvarjajo izjemno natančne in fascinantne videospote, ki povečujejo glasbeno umetnost skupine, njihova izdelava pa zahteva skrbno stop animacijo sličice za sličico. Animacije so bile predvajane na sedmih zaslonih in sinhronizirane z nastopi v živo v Londonu, Mexico Cityu in Brooklynu. Skupina Tulipomania je izdala štiri glasbene albume in številne animirane glasbene videospote in single. Trenutno pripravljajo peti album in neumorno podpirajo animirane glasbene videospote.

The concept of the film is based on the physical and emotional behaviour of breathing. This vital living function is manifested in an artificial and yet organic material, plastic, as well as in a human body. The film questions physical existence and movements as dance on screen, through the metamorphosis of a body.

Koncept filma sloni na fizičnem in čustvenem izvajanju dihanja. Ta ključna življenjska funkcija je prikazana z umetnim, a vendar organskim materialom, plastiko, pa tudi s človeškim telesom. Film raziskuje fizični obstoj in gibe kot ples na zaslonu, skozi metamorfozo telesa.

Hana Yamazaki

Born in Kamakura, Japan 1975. She has lived in Vancouver, Canada, London, UK and now in Budapest, Hungary. She studied graphic design BA at Camberwell College of Arts in London, and has finished her MA animation at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest in 2018. She has worked for architectural software company, GRAHISOFT for which she has produced commercial works. She has learnt Limon, a contemporary dance technique for more than 10 years, and this experience led her to combine dance and animation in her projects.

Rojena leta 1975 v Kamakuri na Japonskem. Živela je v Vancouvru in Londonu, zdaj živi v Budimpešti. Na londonskem Camberwell College of Arts je študirala grafično oblikovanje in zaključila magisterij iz animacije na Univerzi za umetnost in oblikovanje Moholy-Nagy v Budimpešti leta 2018. Delala je za podjetje za arhitekturno programsko opremo GRAHISOFT, za katero je producirala komercialna dela. Več kot 10 let se je učila sodobne plesne tehnike 'limon' in ta izkušnja jo je privedla to tega, da v svojih projektih združuje ples in animacijo.

Petelin Filberta in Sacramenta je vsako jutro splezal na zvonik in zapel: “O sole mío…” Tako je bilo vrsto let; tako dolgo, da se jima je zdelo, da bo vedno tako. Vendar se je petelin staral in nekega večera je zaprl oči in zaspal…

Freeze frame: the most absurd technique since the invention of the moving image. Through an elaborate process of duplicating the same image over and over again, it creates the illusion of stillness. In this stop motion film, identical figures perform the hopeless task of preserving blocks of ice, like archivists. The repetitive movements reanimate the animals captured inside.

Zamrznjen posnetek: najbolj absurdna tehnika od izuma premikajočih slik. Z zapletenim postopkom podvajanja iste podobe znova in znova se ustvari iluzija negibnosti. V tej stop animaciji identični liki opravljajo brezupno delo shranjevanja velikih kosov ledu, kot arhivisti. Ponavljajoči se gibi ponovno oživijo živali, ki so ujete v njihovi notranjosti.

Soetkin Verstegen is an independent film maker from Brussels, Belgium. She previously made the short animated documentary 'Mr Sand' (2016) during the AniDoxResidency at the Animation orkshop in Denmark. She was a fellow at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Germany and grant receiver at Saari residency in Finland. She works as a freelancer for animation short films and TV series and teaches animation workshops.

Soetkin Verstegen je neodvisna filmska ustvarjalka iz Bruslja. Njen prejšnji film, kratki animirani dokumentarec 'Mr Sand' (2016), je nastal med AniDoxResidency, na delavnici animacije na Danskem. Bila je štipendistka Akademie Schloss Solitude v Nemčiji in rezidence Saari na Finskem. Dela kot samostojna ustvarjalka animiranih kratkih filmov in TV nadaljevank ter poučuje na delavnicah animacije.
