Ob železnici 8
Maribor, Upravna enota Maribor, 2000

StopTrik International Film Festival is dedicated to stop motion techniques of hand-made, spatial animation as puppet film, claymation, object or photography manipulation, animation of loose materials (such as salt, sand etc), pixilation, traditional cut-out and many more. The list of sub-genres could be complemented with such exceptional techniques as animation of lights, fire, yarns, threads. Artists' imagination is limitless and so we can be neither orthodox nor strict while defining the term "stop motion". The ultimate goal of this unique annual gathering is to admire and celebrate artistry of hand-made, spatial animation together with all the other drifters of the surreal, absurd or merry highways who are ready to pursue frame by frame illusion.

When Time Moves Faster/ Ko čas teče hitreje

Anna Vasof

2016, AUT/CAN/GRE, 6'30''

A collection of four Non-Stop Stop-Motion film experiments, which follow a similar pattern. The beginning documents the setting and the action in real time and this action is then gradually (digitally) speeded-up to reveal the illusion that it creates.

Technique: non-stop-motion, experimental video

Elegy/ Elegija

Paul Bush (Ancient Mariner Productions, Schattenkabinett)

2017, UK/ SUI, 6'

A film of stone and light – just stone and light. ‘Elegy is a form of poetry natural to the reflective mind. Sorrow and love became the principal themes of the elegy. Elegy presents everything as lost and gone or absent and future.’ (Samuel Taylor Coleridge).

Film o kamnu in svetlobi - le o kamnu in svetlobi. Bridkost in ljubezen sta vodilni temi elegije. (Samuel Taylor Coleridge).

Euxebi’s father was killed during the war. In her youth, Euxebi suffered Francoist repression and, to this day, despite the fact that the dictatorship ended long ago, she has not had the chance to recover the memory of her father. After many years, when they finally open the grave where her father is, Euxebi puts a picture next to his bones.

Areka is the result of the creative collaboration of twenty young artists. The mould of traditional Basque culture (Bersolarismo) comes together with visual experimentation, being inspired by a bertso created by Andoni Egaña specifically for this project. All of the creators worked collaboratively, sharing both work techniques and practices and experiences, thus enabling mutual learning. For this reason, the film is visually very consistent.

Reinhold Bidner

2016, AUT/FRA, 5'45''

Experimental Animation based on Paris Explorations. The basic Idea was to feel inspired by the Urban Landscapes, the Street Art, the People and the Museums while walking through Paris. Based on that my main focus was laid on Faces (but also atmospheres) that are rather on the darker side of the spectrum.
