Ivette Ávila Martín
earned a degree in Biology from the University of Havana (1999) and a Master's degree in Anthropology (2005). She is a director, animator, designer, prop artist, and screenwriter. She trained and worked at the Cuban Television Animation Studios. She is currently an independent artist who collaborates with the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) and Cuban Television. Her work includes music videos, animated short films, documentaries, television series, educational programs, and public service announcements. She is the founder and director of the creative label CUCURUCHO Producciones. She has taught at the Faculty of Audiovisual Media at the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) and in the Film Program at Chavón School of Design in the Dominican Republic. She is the founder and director of the "La Espiral" International Children's Audiovisual Festival (six editions) and the "Animation Days in Havana" International Event (four editions). She also founded the Animaluz Academy, based at the ICAIC Animation Studios, as well as the "Art Without Barriers" event dedicated to art and disability. She has received national and international awards in Canada, Argentina, Turkey, Peru, and Mexico. Among her most notable honors is the Best Animated Short Film award at the 46th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema. She has conducted more than 100 workshops throughout Cuba, including at the International School of Film and Television in San Antonio de los Baños, as well as in Ecuador, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Scotland, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Spain. She has served as a juror for major events including the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, the Latin American Animation Forum, and the Cuban Film Promotion Fund. She has also published articles on various topics related to animation in magazines such as “Cine Cubano” and “La Jiribilla”.
