Santiago, Chile, 1980s – Camila and Paula are 7-years old, neighbors, and best friends. Outside of their own four walls, the everyday life of children and adults is determined by Pinochet’s military dictatorship – strict discipline, curfews, harassment, and protests.

Carolina Cruz

is a Chilean animation filmmaker based in Berlin, and her interdisciplinary art includes stop motion animations, illustrations and installations. Using different analogue techniques of paper illustration, she explores how to develop characters and cinematic worlds, which are characterized by their forms of theatricality and gender gaze. From there, Carolina creates characters full of tenderness to tell stories that are taboo in today's society. They are stories that reveal an ambivalence between the sweet and the crude, between innocence and vileness.
