Andrea Martignoni’s Masterclass: Animation and Soundscapes

Thursday, 28. 9. 2023 at 10.30 / Vetrinj mansion, big hall

It is an exciting experience to choose on your own what to do and with whom to work in creating cinema's moving pictures, especially given Animation Cinema is a terrain of absolute expressiveness. Various films will be presented for which Andrea Martignoni had the pleasure of creating the soundtrack. It is quite clear that with reference to such different images, techniques and styles, whoever deals with the Soundtrack must be malleable in order to somehow succeed in bending at the service of the artistic and expressive elements that are a part of the film. Despite this, creating soundtracks remains an "artistic process" where freedom of expression is in any case guaranteed by the multiplicity of stimuli and by the awareness that the creation of a sound and musical landscape is a fundamental and integral part of an audiovisual work.

Andrea Martignoni will introduce his work on sound for animated cinema, presenting some of the films he has worked on, among them: Fino by Blu (Italy 2005, 2’30’’), Big Bang Big Boom by Blu (Italy 2010, 10’), Absent Minded by Roberto Catani (Italy 2014, 8’), J by Virgilio Villoresi (Italy 2009, 4’16), The Spirit of the Night by Manfredo Manfredi (Italy 2018, 12’40’’), Imbued Life by Ivana Bošnjak and Thomas Johnson (Croatia 2019, 12’), Happiness by Andrey Zhidkov (Russia 2020, 5’), Outside by Izabela Plucinska (Germany, Poland 2023, 5’), Alba’s Memories by Maria Steinmetz and Andrea Martignoni (Italy, Germany 2019, 6’20’’).
