Daniel Šuljić
An animation film director and a musician. Born in Zagreb 1971., from 1992 to 2010 he lived in Vienna, now living and working in both cities. His films, among them From Under Which Rock Did They Crawl Out (2018.), Transparency (2015.), Short life (2007.), Film with a girl (2000.), the Cake (1997.) or Evening star (1993.), were shown at numerous international and national film festivals, different TV stations across Europe and earned numerous awards so far. He was a member of various international festival competition juries and had several personal retrospectives (ITFS Stuttgart, Monstra Lisbon, Supertoon Šibenik, Anifilm Trebon and others). Makes animation, music, illustrations, sound design, dj. Currently, next to new films, he is producing music with his new electronic band Roppongi Red. Since 2018, associate professor for animation at department for animation and new media at Academy of fine arts Zagreb. Since 2011 he is artistic director of the World festival of animated films Animafest Zagreb. From 2010. -2012, commissioner for animated film at Croatian Audio-visual Centre. From 2013. – 2017, member of the cultural council of the city of Zagreb for film. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, and from 1992 to 1998 painting and animation at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Masterclass C. L. Attersee, where he graduated with distinction. From 2005 to 2008, lecturer of classical animation at the Institute for Media Design at the University of Art and Design in Linz, Austria, and in 2006 he was given the title of honorary professor at Jilin College of the Arts Animation School in Changchun, China. He gave lectures and presentations at different universities, festivals and animation events.
